About Kipling

Kipling was founded in 1987 in Antwerp, Belgium. The name was inspired by Rudyard Kipling, the author of "The Jungle Book." Kipling makes bags of all kinds; from large suitcases to a simple pencil case. These bags are stylish and functionable at the same time. They are usually rain-proof and now come in different prints. Kipling is headquartered in New York City and is a division of VF Sportswear, Inc for 7 years. The VF Sportswear Coalition includes the Nautica brand as well as Kipling. Kipling bags usually have a monkey keychain attached. Whenever you think of Kipling, you think of he monkey. Of course he brand name and Rudyard's "The Jungle Book" give Kipling the perfect connection. Monkeys are symbols of fun and adventure, so he monkey naturally became the brand's mascot. And not very  much later, it became the monkey key ring. Every Kipling monkey is named after an employee from somewhere around the world. Every collection has its own unique monkey! The monkey has definitely become a collector's item for anyone who is fun-loving and young at the heart...

Not only a fancy face with supermodel stats, Helena Christensen is a mother, avid philanthropist, established photographer, and world-traveler. Sharing the essence of the Kipling lifestyle, partnering with this fascinating talent on a sophisticated, yet functional accessories collection was a match made in handbag heaven! We recently sat down with Helena to learn more about this exciting collaboration through her eyes…

Q: WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE KIPLING WITH HELENA CHRISTENSEN COLLECTION?
A: I wanted there to be a bag for every occasion. Dusty colors and personal photographs inspired me for the Helena Tote’s Rose Print. The leather series was inspired by those old square schoolbags that get all worn out and look even more beautiful over time.

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE STYLE FROM THE COLLECTION?

A: I like the Helena Leather Clutch. It looks chic, yet simple. I think with time it will get a nice, worn feel and a cool, broken-in look.

Q: WHAT DO YOU GENERALLY LOOK FOR IN A HANDBAG?

A: Space; but nothing that looks oversized! I like a bag that fits comfortably under your arm, but has enough room for a weekend away. For eveningwear, I like a clutch that sits comfortably in your hand and fits just the most necessary items for a night out on the town.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST KIPLING MEMORY?

A: Since my early 20s I’ve been pulling Kipling luggage along on my trips all over the world. I have accumulated quite a few, by now.

Q: WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT THIS DESIGN COLLABORATION?

A: The design process was definitely the fun part. To be given the responsibility and honor of incorporating your personal style into an established product and brand like Kipling is pretty awesome!

Late Back-To-School Pick

I know it's already the beginning of November, but I have a suggestion for your back-to-school supply list (next year).
Introducing, the Freedom pencil case and cosmetics bag! A friend of mine has one and suggested that I review it on the blog. She said the metallic colors are the best and also the newest.

This is the silver beige color; it also come in rose gold and midnight rustic. It's basically a small bag that can hold pens and pencils, or cosmetics. It is made out of metallic coated nylon and has Kipling's famous furry monkey key chain. By the way, only the silver beige has the monkey shown above; rose gold and midnight rustic comes with baby monkeys instead. There is a double zippered entry to the main and only compartment and features Kipling's logo right front and center, like every other Kipling bag.

This amazing bag can  be in three different styles: a clutch (first picture), a waist bag (second picture), and a cross body bag (last picture.)  It is very fashionable as well as functionable. It's petite size makes it easy and convent to carry. October Pick

Here's the October Pick:

This is the Alicia backpack. You're probably thinking that's not a backpack. Well, it is! This convenient bag can be packed up into this tiny pouch! It can turn into a nice spacious backpack in just seconds! This is a great bag for travel and is very unique. It comes in black, celo gray, vibrant pink, and true blue. It also includes a little furry monkey key chain that you can take off. When it is folded and looks like the picture above, it has a zipper in the front and a bigger velcro compartment in the back. It also has a little detachable handle that you but around your wrist that makes it even more practical. When it is unfolded and looks more like a backpack...

It looks similar to the Raychel backpack, yet slightly different. It has the same drawstring and velcro that closes the bag. There are two adjustable straps and a handle to hang it up or to simply hold it. It is made out of 100 % crinkle nylon and is also rain-proof.

September Pick: Adara Medium Tote

Sorry that I am announcing the September Pick in the beginning of November! I have to catch up on studying for high school and anyway, here is one of my fave bags.

The Adara tote is one of Kipling's latest tote bags; it is the perfect size and you can take it everywhere you go. You can use for work, the gym, shopping (of course), or a night out in the town. The bag comes in three great prints: vipin, beige snake, and skyler blu croc. It also includes a soft, furry monkey key chain that you can take off. It has a zipper that opens the bag. There are two handles attached to the bag for you to hold and a detachable  shoulder strap that you can adjust to your liking if you want to sling it over your shoulder. It also has an extra zipped pocket in the back of the bag. The main compartments has another zipped pocket, two pen sleeves, a key fob, and a cell phone sleeve. This bag really keeps your things organized. That is another great thing about Kipling.

Kipling's newest backpack style. It comes in two different colors: black and winter exotic (it's really just brown). The backpack comes with a small metal monkey key chain. It's great to use in school and can store your things and organize them. It has adjustable shoulder straps to fit your size. It has a carrier handle on the top so you can hang it up somewhere or carry it by hand. It has pockets to put a cell phone in and pens or pencils that you keep loose. It is a great way to keep your things organized and there is also a key holder which is great so you don't have to look for those keys! Made out of fabric.
